Day 7: Recipe Magnet Board

As Sunday is the day of rest, it was hard to motivate myself to complete a diy today. And as I began getting frustrated with this little booger, I wanted to just quit. But I saw it through to the end. I'm not ecstatic with the results but I'm rather relieved that it's over.

I will explain my frustrations (which are mostly my fault, not because this is a difficult project) as I give directions. What you will need for this project:

A cookie sheet
Scrapbook paper
Paint & Brushes
Magnets
Mod Podge

The cookie sheet was $1 from dollar tree and the magnets (the bane of my existence that I ended up not using) were only $1 from Michael's. The scrapbook paper came from Michael's and Wal-Mart I believe.

First you need to paint the outside edges of your cookie sheet the color of your choice.

My sweet husband cut out the paper for me because I'm incapable of cutting in straight lines. After your paint dries you can then Mod-Podge the scrapbook paper onto the cookie sheet.

Part of my frustrations stemmed from the bubbles I was unable to get out of the paper, but I can overlook that. Especially when I have a recipe card covering it. However the real problem I had today were the magnets. Not only did I waste the magnets I bought (because I can't properly follow directions) but I ruined some of my own magnets.

I will stop short of giving you all the details but long story short, don't buy rounded magnets, you cannot Mod-Podge paper to them. Also, do not try to take the magnets off of the back and glue scrapbook paper to them. I suggest simply finding magnets that match the color scheme you're going for or maybe you'll be luckier than me and find flat magnets.

My husband asked me if I really thought that all of my projects would go smoothly and I suppose I didn't. But all in all I'm grateful it wasn't a complete disaster. Still completely usable and remotely cute. Sorry for the negativity. Tomorrow I promise to be more pleasant. However, I will still use my new recipe board, it may not be beautiful but it is handy.

Here, this should put us all in a better mood.

Here's hoping day 8 brings a happier diy.
