The New Place

We have been in our new home a little over one week. Already we have planted lots of seeds (we're hoping we don't get an early frost so they'll have enough time to produce). There is plenty to love about the new place but it took some TLC on the front end (thanks to my mama and daddy).

We do not have a heat pump so that has been a bit of an adjustment. We were lucky to receive 2 free window units which help to keep it comfortable inside. The one in our bedroom makes Ike too cold to sleep with us so the poor thing has been forced to sleep in his own bed.

Also notice the fly swatter in the background. Drew and I each have one. Leaving doors and windows open require we keep them close by. 

We are back to gardening, of course. We have also been composting and using our rain water for watering the gardens. We also are lucky enough to have a clothesline where I've been drying all of our clothes. It feels good to be green, although figuring out the water barrel caused us both to say really nasty words.

We put up bird feeders first thing and up until this afternoon I'd only had gold finches but today finally saw a purple one.

We transplanted tomato plants form our community garden plot and two of them are doing great. One of them is still trying to decide if it agrees with the Floyd environment. But it's nice to have one thing producing while our seeds are just now sprouting in the garden.

The combined living/dining room is definitely our favorite space. Drew is ecstatic to have a wood stove and the view is breathtaking. As my dad says "You can see a right far piece from right here." And indeed you can.

This was the day we moved and it was a stormy one.

Our yard is fenced in which is perfect for the dog. And we have an apple tree and found some wild blackberries next to the fence yesterday. The apple tree is a bit daunting. There are lots of apples falling to the ground every day but they aren't ripe. I plan to freeze some but isn't it too early to pick apples?? I still have lots to learn about farm life. 

Drew built these bookshelves while I was out of town this week. And those lovely flowers were growing in our garden. 

We, again, have room for company and I cannot sing enough praises to our cute little town. We fell in love with the farmer's market this morning and would love to have company to take to the Friday night jamborees. Also, the Little River is a little over a mile past our house and it looks like some good fishing and floating.
