Thankfulness Recently

On this frigid Sunday there is lots to be thankful for. Like...

Getting to watch my "baby" brother ball so hard for his sweet 16 (that shit cray)

Being able to nap outside in our Eno last Sunday and single digit temperatures this Sunday.

A visit from sista.

A warm fire for the puppies to snuggle up next to.

A Saturday night spent making hats out of coloring pages and singing along to Frozen.

A bouquet of sharpened pencils from my Valentine.

Seeing kids smile at school again after a few days of feeling like they may never again.

The chance to embarrass myself in front of students  by doing the Electric Slide at the homecoming dance.

Notes from Kenya.

Minimizing.

Sharing sour punch straws with this cutie.

Husbands who learn to knit.

Inspiration from fellow teachers to learn to crochet

Having seeds sprout indoors while temperatures outdoors hover in single digits.

A beautiful county to call home that shares our values. Lives local. Lives intentionally. Lives simple.

Happy Sunday, friends. Hope you're cozy with a warm beverage in hand.

Thankfulness Recently

These days I'm thankful for...
  • Almost catching a fish.
  • A bedroom full of school supplies waiting to be put in my new classroom.
  • Friends to talk Harry Potter with over a long lunch.
  • New chacos.

  • God's timing. Otherwise we would not have found our home in Floyd or the sweet landlords we have.
  • A job with a school system where the superintendent's secretary calls me to see if I've found a house to rent because she's been looking for me (and found one that will take our dog).
  • Seeing a dear friend's genuine smile for the first time in years last weekend.
  • Verizon wireless so we can have cell service in our new home.
  • A house surrounded by gardens and a fence for Ikey.

Hope you're finding things in your days to be thankful for, friends. We're gearing up for another move here.

Thankfulness Recently

These days I'm thankful for....

  • Afternoons spent in the park.

  • The discovery of 2 cellos on Pandora.
  • Laughing out loud at books.
  • Facetime hugs and kisses.
  • Discovering yoga classes at the Y.
  • Sunburnt shoulders.

  • Grilling out on our roof with friends on Sunday afternoons.
  • And a husband who's impressed with Dollar Tree banners and balloons for his birthday.

What about you friends? What good things make you smile lately?

Thankfulness Recently

Lately I'm grateful for:

Sunday afternoons at the dog park.

A loving cohort who cares for one another and drives each other crazy.

Friends named Mary.

Having friends with extra beds in the NRV when I'm too tired to drive back to Roanoke.

A husband who claimed to me last night that he is "capitalist by trade, socialist by heart."

Visits from mom and sister.

A pleasantly sweet cooperating teacher to spend this semester learning from.

Dirty pawprints on my sheets.

Free geography swag from fellow teachers.

Brothers who finally read books I took them months ago.

A dad with a little friend in his belly and the opportunity to show off my nursing skills this weekend.

Pictures like this that make me giddy.

Thankfulness Recently

Lately, I'm grateful for:

Friends who can enjoy some trivia after a successful semester.

A good book that I can read for pleasure and still learn from.

A (discounted) membership at the YMCA to whip this butt into shape after the holidays (and hopefully help my cyber Monday jeans to fit a little better).

4 hour long car ride conversations with my husband.

Memories of past holidays with my mamaw and the ability to cling to them this year.

A snuggly puppy to be lazy with on my days off.

Time to reflect on the Christmas season before rushing all around during the holiday.

A Packer's comeback victory over the Cowboys.

Getting Christmas cards in the mail every day.

Pictures of this cutie patootie in her new hat.

And I'm thankful for a family who will still gather without our matriarch to honor and remember her this Christmas.

Hope you all are enjoying this holiday season and not feeling overwhelmed or rushed. Take a moment to breathe in the winter air and listen to this song, it will help remind you why this season is important.

Thankfulness Recently

Seeing that this is the week/month of thanks I suppose a thankfulness post is in order.

I'm thankful for

  • Friends who will kill themselves helping us move.

  • A puppy dog who is adjusting to life without a yard.

  • Parents who will drive to Roanoke for one day to help unpack and bring a new coffee pot.
  • Siblings who love Jesus and spent the weekend together worshipping him.
  • Friendly "hellos" in a new city.
  • A husband who is on this journey with me every step of the way.

  • 7th graders who are full of questions.
  • Gas logs.
  • The hope of new adventures for friends whose lives are changing rapidly.
  • Pictures of these 2 cuties and for the ability to travel home and see them in person this week!

Thank you Jesus for placing us in this city. I am nervous about how it will all shake it out, but there is no doubt that this is where we are supposed to be. Be thankful friends!

Thankfulness Lately

I'm sorry for having been MIA these past few weeks. Adjusting to this new schedule with grad school and blocking has been a tough transition but I have a few moments today so I'll catch you up.

Lately I'm thankful for
  • Famer's Market Saturdays and the meals that come from them.

  • Having a group of teenagers I get to spend 3 days a week with, whom I can lovingly call "my kids" to Drew. They are everything I hoped they would be and I am so glad I ended up in this career.
  • For Starbucks, which is how I get through my Wednesdays.
  •
  • I'm thankful for a husband who does laundry and then puts my USB in rice because he accidentally washed it.
  • I'm thankful for a dog who looks like this sometimes (and is recently on a diet per vet's orders)
  • I'm thankful for the uncomfortableness blogger is telling me that's not a word but I don't care of visiting new churches
  • I'm thankful for fantasy football. Man that was a good idea, even though I suck.

  • I'm thankful for phone calls to NYC to talk to my very best friend.
  • I'm thankful for a husband who looks like this:
  • And who the very next day, on a dare, parted his hair in the middle and slicked it down for work. Looking much like Dwight Schrute. Oh that boy.
  • I'm thankful for fall and all that comes with it. Namely: cider, sweaters, boots, soup, and pot pie.

  • I'm thankful for chilly Friday nights in Blacksburg, talking about where the wind is blowing us next.
  •
I promise to be more present in the future. I'm still trying to figure out how I want to talk to you about my awesome kids on here, it's gonna be a bit difficult.
