A little trip to Bluefield

Taking a little break from diy updates to post about our mini-vaca to West Virginia. We stayed at the Dian-Lee House in Bluefield and I was so glad we did. We were even able to take our little puppy with us to enjoy this beautiful home.

This is a picture of the Dian-Lee House in 1904 when it had just been built. I love a good historical building/home and this one did not disappoint. It has been a bed and breakfast for 17 years now and according to the innkeeper is "Bluefield's best kept secret."

And this, of course, is a picture of it now. It is still breathtaking! I cannot wait to go back and stay when it gets a little warmer and enjoy reading on the front porch.

This was my favorite room. Drew had to leave for work before breakfast was served in the mornings and because we were the only guests I had the whole house to myself. I loved being served breakfast here in the mornings with the sun shining in and drinking my coffee. I felt like a West-Virginian princess. haha The breakfast was delicious both days and the service was top-notch. We will definitely be visiting this historical b&b again.

We also had some delicious food in Bluefield. The first day I arrived I ventured into a little bookstore in town called Hearthside Books. I purchased a hardback copy of a book of speeches by Lincoln. While there I was also able to inquire about good local restaurants. The ladies were so friendly and even wrote down directions for me to get to the places they suggested since I do not own a GPS.

If ever you're in Bluefield or even passing by you MUST eat at Key Ingredients. It had a very cool vibe and the food was incredible. And I don't even use that word. But it was just that, incredible. I had crab cakes and Drew had the beef tenderloin. We both cleaned our plates and left there full as ticks! Plus the outside is enough to arouse your interest.

Drew does have quite a commute to work so I was happy that we could off-set that for a couple of days and enjoy a new little slice of Appalachia I had never visited much. My sister asked me what Bluefield was like and I told her it was a cross between home and Blacksburg, the perfect combination. The whole city (both cities I should say Bluefield, VA and Bluefield, WV) have such beautiful historic homes I would have been content just driving around looking at them. But if ever you get the chance, Bluefield would be worth a visit.

  2. I would love to visit there! I love roaming around historic towns, looking at the houses and stores. Abingdon, Old Town Manassas, and Winchester are some of my favorite in VA. I am so glad I saw your blog post on Facebook, and that I have found a fellow chic from "The Pound!" I am looking forward to doing some of your DIY ideas. I LOVE the lamp shade post!
